We had lots of fun with our ADST passion projects at Bridgeview. This student followed a tutorial in “Tech Lab: Awesome Builds for Smart Makers” to make a microphone out of pencil leads, batteries, alligator clips, cardboard, and headphones. #sd36learn #sd36tl

In honour of #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation and #OrangeShirtDay the staff and students of Bridgeview created this large orange weaving. It will hang at the front of the school as a reminder of our commitment to truth and reconciliation. #sd36learn #sd36tl

One of my goals in ADST is to teach students how to be lifelong learners. I often introduce projects with live demonstrations, but soon I defer to instructions from books and videos. #lifelonglearning #selfefficacy #sd36learn #sd36adst #sd36tl #choice Bridgeview

Our weavings are up! Plain weave, interlocking weave, tassels, and more! The students were invited to combine weaving techniques and to turn an abstract idea into a visual representation. #sd36learn #sd36tl #sd36adst

Gr 1-2 are learning about artists! So far we’ve read about Keith Haring and Basquiat - how they made their work and how they influenced each other. I love these big experimental collaborative art pieces that let students explore a variety of materials and techniques. #sd36tl

That sweet spot in the maker process where the students know what they’re doing, they’re engaged, and they’re immersed. Soon there will be problems to be solved and early finishers who need to be challenged, but for now... bliss! #stopmotion #sd36tl #sd36adst #sd36learn

The music teacher and I taught all of the upper intermediate students this afternoon in a lesson that combined art, music, science and history. We learned about Wassily Kandinsky, synesthesia, elements of art, and new ways to listen to music. #sd36learn Bridgeview

My Day With Gong Gong offered so many rich discussion points: relationships with grandparents, sharing language, special foods, what it feels like when adults laugh at us... The students loved looking at photos of Chinatown and loved doing the directed drawing with Elaine Chen ☘️

This spring break I worked at the Richmond Museum for their Junior Curator camp. Check out their exhibit, “How Kids Lived”! On now at the Richmond Cultural Centre until the fall. Richmond Museum

The “Tiny Art Show” was perfect for 6-8 year olds over spring break. It became an ongoing project throughout the week. There’s something special about getting a tiny precious piece of cardstock or a pinch of self-drying clay.

Reviewing circuits in preparation for using our district’s #makeymakey kits. I love seeing the students’ “lightbulbs” literally and figuratively light up. 💡 #sd36adst #sd36tl #sd36learn

I’ve done mindfulness exercises with students K-12. It can be challenging to assess the success of the program until a few weeks/months have passed and the students share reflections. These grade 6-7s did a Smiling Mind program with me. #sd36learn #sd36SEL

Inspired by Peaceful Fights for Equal Rights, students researched peaceful protests and protest symbols. We had so much fun dissecting the words and images of this book. @RobSandersWrite Jared Andrew Schorr #sd36learn #sd36tl

In the first iteration of this game, the students made one controller. Then they decided it would be more fun if they made it collaborative by splitting the controller in two. #scratch #makeymakey #sd36tl #sd36tl Bridgeview
