Photos from last week’s Book Tasting in ENG4U at LASS. We had a diverse selection of texts + cafe music & coffee/tea to set the mood! The grade 12 students loved this experience and I can’t wait to recreate it for the grade 10s next week.

Not anglicizing names, especially as a Sikh female, is my first step in respecting and affirming student identity.

I was so happy when a student said they immediately felt comfortable in the classroom because of a simple name pronunciation. Little things 🥰🙏🏽

A great “reel” analysis today. This clip was about raising “warriors” and not letting success and growth be the root cause of later failure and distress.

This activity rapidly becomes a class favourite as we infuse Thinking Classroom, critical thinking & group discussion.

Semester 2, Day 1 ☑️

Warm welcomes, chit chat, reflecting on the last semester, & acquainting students with their new space. Off to a solid start.

English should be a year long course. One semester is not nearly enough to support students (especially post pandemic) with their literacy and critical thinking skills.

Feeling both exhausted and exhilarated as I complete my first full semester of teaching. What a thrilling learning experience it’s been.

I look forward to teaching grades 10 & 12 English next semester.

End of day quietness.

What a great 3 weeks it’s been. I learn from the students every day.

Another teacher in the building said she’s been teaching for 20 years & she’s just as excited today as she was on day 1. What a woman. Hope to have a similar story to tell.

I know they say when it rains it pours. Sometimes it feels like it also thunderstorms, hails, and there’s a tornado thrown in the mix.

I like to call days like this my “character building days”.
