Like so many of you, I’m pained by these recent tragedies. And I’m exhausted by a heartbreak that never seems to stop. Right now it’s George, Breonna, and Ahmaud. Before that it was Eric, Sandra, and Michael. It just goes on, and on, and on.

Given the recent events of George Floyd, the NCTE Presidential Team has released a statement denouncing all forms of racial violence and brutality. Read it in full. ncte.org/blog/2020/06/n…

I’m gonna buy a new planner tomorrow for the 20-21 school year. A new planner makes everything better. (That’s what I’m telling myself 🤷🏾‍♀️) And pencils no pens because you know who knows.

Dear World, Teaching and Learning are, first and last, human acts. Thinking education would be at all times convenient and efficient is misguided. We’ve never been efficient. And with the pandemic we can’t be convenient. Human enterprises are messy. Signed, Humans in the Room.

If you are compelled to make a list of rules for kids to follow while in video classes this fall, please stop and think. Kids are not in a classroom and are in no way all in the same spaces physically or emotionally. Let them snack, wear comfortable clothes, and hold the puppy.

Wondering aloud... if middle and high schools will hold remote learning at later times to accommodate adolescent bodies/brains... Back in April, many of my students didn't do work until the afternoon, and I had better attendance in Zooms in the afternoon. 🤔

I'm not a fan of teaching a class where half the students video conference in and half the students are in person. Don't get me wrong. It works but it doesn't work well. It's the instructional version of a spork.

If a student is learning to ride a bike and they fail on the first 9 attempts but are successful on the 10th... what would their grade be? Is it a 10% or an F? Or did they master the skill of riding a bike? #edchat #remotelearning

My homeschool kids benefit so much from the time I spent as an instructional coach @ Elmwood and co-teaching with teachers like Todd. My own girls love science now, and I never would have had the confidence to teach them had it not been for my time planning and teaching with Todd
