Districts + unions continue to miss the point. Here’s the grand bargain: pay *excellent teachers* a lot. They are worth it. And higher education budgets for better results is a deal both sides can accept - and should want. the74million.org/article/los-an…

HANDS UP for my colleague and former mentee Tiffany Reyes, one of just a handful of Big Apple Award winning teachers in 2023! Staff and students surprised her yesterday with the announcements. She is a middle school math rock star; teacher like her are gold. So proud! NYC Public Schools

Teaching in many Blue districts is (too) low risk/low reward. Job security is exchanged for low pay (especially when a district requires a Master’s). This is an imbalance. Less job security (but not none) and higher pay = better for kids and for effective teachers.

It’s a bittersweet moment for our org as we celebrate Co-Founder Sydney Morris, who announced today she will be stepping down at the end of the calendar year in her role as Co-CEO. Syd, I’ve seen the extraordinary work you’ve led over the last 13+ years to build Educators for Excellence (E4E)!

For far too long, teachers have been treated as subjects of change rather than as agents of change. At E4E, we're committed to building teacher power. Read our Declaration & join our growing movement: e4e.org/membership/our…

Teachers deserve time to visit a colleague’s classroom (not at the expense of lunch/prep). If we are serious about improving instruction, we should provide *actual* time for observing the room next door; would offer teachers context-specific and timely feedback from an educator.

Union support is on the rise as per Gallup, graphed here by The New York Times. Collective bargaining is attractive because it empowers workers. This makes many of our important jobs more sustainable.

Perhaps it’s the science teacher in me, but I cringe when I hear people say pregnant women have a baby in their *stomach*.

Teaching is damn hard. A lotta folks who criticize us couldn’t teach 1 day in our classrooms leading our kids. Make no mistake: those who can, teach. So when teachers aren’t paid well, many take their talents to a better compensated (and almost always easier) job. Educators for Excellence (E4E)

It is absolutely unacceptable that my union, the UFT, *boasts* about high voter turnout for contract votes in schools but refuses to allow for leadership election voting to occur in schools, resulting in dismal voter turnout. Hypocrisy in plain sight.
