It was an absolute joy to be able to bathe in Mike Garry’s wonderful lyricism this afternoon at Ribblesdale School. What a treat for Year 11 as part of ‘Litfest’ this week. A healthy dose of perspective in the midst of exam preparation. Thank you, Mike! 🐝

Beyond exciting to see ♥️ How To Get a 9 in Shakespeare 🖤 out in the wild! I’d love to give away a free copy: if you fancy one for a #Shakespeare mad Year 10/11, your own bedside table #CPD, or to put on a department bookshelf - just retweet! TIA #teamenglish #freebie #comp

📯Does anyone teach a scheme on 'Literary Rebels'? I've seen it on a few English Curriculum Maps and I'm keen to get in touch with anyone who delivers a scheme similar (It sounds really interesting! Also a fantastic way of looking at authorial intent!) Team English Please RT!

I’ve always been fortunate enough to have my birthday fall in the Easter holidays. NOT THIS YEAR! Still, the English team treated me to a birthday balloon to keep my spirits high! 🎈

#Englishhangout Last year I read this *amazing* book that advocates framing curriculum around threshold concepts. Really promising to see English HODs (whether or not they used this!) build their KS3 around concepts. V helpful for those (mainly me!) wanting to do the same.

It was great fun having Dan Worsley in with my Year 9 class yesterday. A fantastic way to learn about the art of storytelling! A few came in still talking about the 'bogey story' this morning! 😅

Still reflecting on a great few days with Nathan Parker, who came in to deliver some great sessions on storytelling. A proper breath of fresh air!

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to take 100 pupils to see Macbeth in Liverpool last night. Ralph Fiennes + Indira Varma put on a really special performance. What an opportunity for all involved. 🐍🗡️🩸

‘But sir, did the poet actually mean that?’ Listening to Heaney’s Desert Island Discs yesterday, I’ll now respond with his exact words: ‘It’s entirely possible to dwell upon a poem, a rhythm, or a word and extend out meanings the poet wasn’t conscious of’ A master.

Thought C2 Eduqas Lit paper was decent overall, with lots to unpick. But disappointed (again) that Eduqas used a poem for the unseen question that’s all over GCSE prep schemes. Just Google “unseen poetry GCSE”. This isn’t unseen. It’s inequitable. Same with 'Nettles' 2 years ago.
