A big mistake anyone can make is to believe NIMBYs are motivated by transactional politics for their asset values.

NIMBYism makes everything in a community worse. Economically, environmentally, city services, access to anything.

It’s extreme aversion to change. That’s it.

Want economic recovery in the Commonwealth? I’m dreaming of the day when you wake up and find that what you’re looking for has been here the whole time.

The homevoter hypothesis is oversold. At its core, NIMBYism is mostly just plain old aversion to change.

Change is the only constant in life. If we do nothing about this it will get much much worse — not building enough is decimating communities everywhere in the Commonwealth and for what? Some neighborhood defenders hurt feelings about being wrong? Get over it.
