Coding and literacy in action! For the FDK class, we decided it would be great to have "Benny" Bee recall the 12 days of Christmas! Using Canva this beebot grid was created and the rest was up for exploration! DP Tech Team DP Literacy Team

Intro to inferencing-The what, why and how. We listed sentence starters, analyzed pictures together, elaborated on our thinking and completed a short check-in-ticket. Take-away: Ss loved seeing their names next to their responses. They felt empowered! DP Literacy Team DP Early Years

Modelled the “vowel intensive” exercise where Ss have vowel tents in front of them. Next, either say a sound, syllable or word is said for Ss to listen for that vowel sound and identify Lindsay Kemeny #7MightyMoves Take-Away✨ 5 mins using a targeted activity leads to big gains!

Introduced Manie Musicale to this fab Gr. 3 classroom. They enjoyed newly released French songs, analyzing the lyrics in small group and in their booklet, reviewing the first song on the bracket. "This song is a bop, Mme Salame!" Mission complete ✅ FSL at the DPCDSB St. Joachim DPCDSB

Ss in FI drew mnemonic letters to support long-term retention of letter-sound correspondence and enhance their decoding and blending skills. Ss created 8 different grapheme/phoneme cards and were able to read many new words. Merci AlphaGraphe for the inspiration! 🫶

So blessed to collaborate with fantastic educators St. Pio Catholic Elementary School 🫶Have a look at the ways we are reinforcing phonemic skills. Ss speaking in French while practicing phonemes/graphemes, vowel warmups, a sound wall for Ss to reference and graphic organizers to plan out ideas.

Grade 4 Ss St. Pio Catholic Elementary School were inspired by the French songs from OFFICIAL account and enjoyed showcasing their literacy and art skills through their fantastic shirt designs and blackout poems!
