Take it in. The first female chancellor. The first housing secretary who's actually lived in social housing. The first education secretary who was on free school meals. An energy secretary who actually believes in aggressively fighting climate change. Not a bad afternoon.

You know what I increasingly think is mad about English Lit GCSE? The absolute lack of guiding content. Have you seen other subject specifications? They often have a list of 'these are the things to teach the students'. Eng Lit: here's a list of books to choose from

Our wonderful nursery offers zoom sessions with a child psychologist on different topics every term and the one I've just done on dysregulation and co-regulation was so useful and I truly feel could be applied to teenagers too.

Just got paid for exam marking & worked out it's about £5ph and that's me being generous. 🤣 There must be a way to make exam marking more attractive so that it all gets done in good time too - I think it's as simple as having more reasonable quotas not necessarily more pay!

Jenn Ludgate 📚 I quit marking when they launched the new A levels and the pay rate was slashed. They must think we’re right mugs. Costs a centre what, about £24 per entry? And of that the expert marker gets pence 🤣🤣🤣

Cazamero Gary Brown Jenn Ludgate 📚 It’s exploitation to be honest- I’m considering finding as many markers as I can to sign my letter to get more weight behind it. Wondering if I should go straight to the top- so not individual exam boards but the board overseeing all exams?

I didn't examine this year (first time in 10 years) as last year I found it too hard to do as well as being HoF in HT6. The pay does not incentivise at all.

This year has been a newborn blur with essentially no more than 3 hours sleep at a time since April (thanks 4 month sleep regression). Therefore, I'm quite proud to have kept up with my street book club reads. Recommend them all in their own way!

Primary teachers: What's the best thing to do when 'teaching' reading at home to little ones? 3.5 year old can recognise all letters and give a sound but he's starting to ask about why they make different sounds. What do you prefer parents to do/not do before they start school?

Heartbreaking

We were warned. We were repeatedly warned. Still managed to get ourselves to the point where the climate is collapsing though.

First time in 12 years that I won't be at results day this year. On maternity leave and we booked to go away and I don't feel too bad about that but still feels bizarre. This view makes it better though! Hope everyone has happy days.

Utterly depressing news coming out of America. I hate how much it will impact the UK as well as encourage similar horrific individuals to gain power here again. All young people deserve better than this world we are making for them.

Does anyone know anything about Cambridge iGCSE English lit? I am trying to work out what the Shakespeare response should look like but have no access to their resources. Would ideally have example responses, example Midsummer questions etc. Team English thank you ❤️
