Would be grateful for a RT. My daughter was not a celebrity, she was just a normal individual who unfortunately died from a brain cancer. I'm trying to raise awareness of glioblastoma, a grade 4 tumour that took her at the age of 19 yrs 5 days. With thanks (Charlotte's mother)

If you’re wondering yes “there are 50 other African countries why are you singling out South Africa??” was a very common defense of apartheid South Africa in the mid 1980s

In this free chapter from his LRB audiobook, Jonathan Rée looks at the life of Jean-Paul Sartre up to the publication of his first major philosophical work, Being and Nothingness, in 1943. lrb.co.uk/podcasts-and-v…

Even as a politics lecturer in a Middle East department, I am lost. Israel has a right to self defence, but Lebanon does not? Israelis have the right to be safe, but Palestinians do not? Iran can’t launch missiles into civilian areas, but Israel can? None of this is coherent.

Last year alone, private firms reported profits of £45 billion from our country’s domestic energy system. If that money had been kept in the hands of the hardworking public, it could have been used to save each household almost £2,000 on their #energy bills. #PublicOwnership

Suspending 30 out of 350 arms licences to Israel was an admission by the government of the risk of complicity in violations of international law. It is legally and morally inconsistent to keep the remaining 320 in place, including F-35 jets. We need a full arms embargo NOW.

Strikes killing hundreds of women and children were applauded. An Iranian strike aimed at military bases and with no victims in Israel was called barbaric. Impossible not to see here a collapse of the Western mind, a wilful embrace of madness

Financial Inclusion Centre pleased to support this letter. The FCA should have regard to financial inclusion. But, can't allow this to be used as an excuse to weaken rules to 'encourage' firms to sell products. Regulation does not cause exclusion. on.ft.com/4gOKtP4 via Financial Times

We're on the brink rn yet BBC offers no opportunity for serious discussion of basis of conflict, diplomacy & prospects for de-escalation. Instead demands moral condemnations of Hezbollah. Extraordinary stupid & unprofessional.

Just endless, pointless, nihilistic mass murder. Again, we should be clear: no better than Hamas, and anyone supporting/justifying/excusing this is no better than anyone justifying what happened on October 7. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Read this. Take it in. Give yourself permission to share in Owen's feelings of disgust. Allow yourself to see things as they are, in all their banal horror. Feel rage. Feel something. Don't let the gravity of this situation crush your humanity.

Saddened to read this. Lord Ouseley was the first Black chair of the Commission for Racial Equality, appointed in 1993. He was a strong advocate for racial justice, raising the Windrush injustice from the House of Lords, and supporting charities as well as his work in football

Listen to/watch/read the views of so much of the West's political/ media establishment (inc in the UK). Owen Jones clearly has a powerful point here.
