Some great new research from Richard Fox Lisbeth Hordley on long grass, urban gardens and butterflies πŸ‘πŸ¦‹

tldr: long grass brings more butterflies to your yard, particularly in urban areas

Waiting in the wings
The bee behind was an aggressor that was chasing other bees away from its territory and when they went in a flower would jump on their backs (I may be missing something but they look like different species)

Morning friends on !
Euonymus is being eaten out the front. Looking for low growing evergreen thats good for pollinators, but it's north facing and clay! Any ideas? What are you growing successfully?

Little Green Space 🐝(@LGSpace) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There are so many green spaces in our towns and villages that are over-mown or sprayed, but which could instead be boosting biodiversity and bringing nature back into our lives like this corner of Cambridge. RT if you agree 🐝

Noticed today that the Box tree caterpillars are back on the box hedging at work. They are only small at the moment so I will need so sort them quickly. I saw a couple of bees in amongst the foliage too or possibly parasitic wasps?
Second pic not so clear unfortunately

Your kindness can kill a bumblebee πŸ’”

πŸ“’ Please share! Bumblebee queens are starting to emerge from hibernation. British weather isn’t always ideal and people with the best intentions can cause more harm good. Let’s change that.

Bovine TB is overwhelmingly a cow-to-cow spread disease. Our policymakers need to accept that fact and the science behind it.

Stop killing badgers.

The rings of an oak tree and a human fingerprint, so many things to say about this but I am just going to leave it here for your own thoughts.

Hedgehogs are amazing.
You'd never guess that beneath that casually trundling little body, biological magic is happening - at lightning speed.
The time between conception and birth is just 5 weeks.
Five weeks!
From nothing, to a fully formed little hedgehog.
And not just one.
