Thrilled to shared Alison Ke’s 3rd dissertation chapter, just out in Conservation Biology! Using >14k observation of bird behaviors, we show Costa Rican birds are more likely to exhibit reproductive behaviors in forest than farms, esp forest reserves (a thread) conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/co…

Very excited to share this paper led by Sara Emery just out in Science of the Total Environment! We use remote sensing to show Lygus pests in CA cotton are a lot worse when nearby natural habitat is productive but dries down early, exporting pests to crop fields! It's #BiodiversityDay! These Creek Chub and Common Shiners are providing the spawning conditions necessary for Endangered Redside Dace. We need species diversity and diversity (variation) within species (the stuff of natural selection) for healthy ecosystems.

β€œWe had a really bad year last year. We had a really bad year this year. Say we wipe out this cohort. Salmon are on a three-year lifecycle. That’s starting to look like the anatomy of an extinction.” calmatters.org/environment/wa… UC Davis Center for Watershed Sciences Kat Kerlin

Me w/ a giant garter snake! Once found across the CV it's now a fed threatened species. Like other CV wetland endemics, it now depends on rice fields. If we lost rice, we'd lose the snake. Thanks Laura π“†Œ for taking me & Emily Mensch out w/ USGS to visit these rad creatures
