Led by Satoka Fujimoto and with Brian Russ and Helen Mayberg, MD our first paper on the effects of deep brain stimulation in the brain. What’s exciting is that we find it induces white matter remodeling in specific tracts. Friedman Brain Institute biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Grateful to be an audio editor for these interviews to champion women’s experiences in neuroscience! I really enjoyed Bing Wen Brunton episode, #99 for her sincere and candid conversation!

This was my 1st time leading a #GRC Power Hour & it was AMAZING! I didnt know it could be this good!!! Maybe its the #favoritismfairy in me, but Shansky Lab is an absolute #genius for bringing in a dedicated human w/ experience in #JEDI to transform the power hour! #blackinneuro

I strongly believe in transparency in PhD admissions, especially in the face of changing guidelines about how we select students. So, Tari Tan, PhD (she/her) Veronica G Martinez Acosta Michelle Tomaszycki and I wrote this paper for Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience to expose the hidden curriculum. 🔦 funjournal.org/wp-content/upl…

My paper on how top down predictions enable increased pattern separation and invariance in the monkey face patch system is finally out in Nature Communications rdcu.be/dRCg9 ! I was particularly impressed & amazed by the extent of flexibility even the visual cortex can exhibit!

I have given this a lot of thought- I think it’s state matching- and actually not all that surprising that when we are socially communicating and matching each other moods (eg you tell a funny joke and we both laugh) that our physiological patterns and neural activity are similar

We recently published a commentary on a review paper by Ev (like in 'evidence', not Eve) Fedorenko 🇺🇦, Anna Ivanova, and Tamar Regev and I wanted to expand on one of the points raised in their reply to us about functionally defining language cortex. nature.com/articles/s4158… Thread🧵:

It's finally out, on Joe's last day in the lab before heading off to postdoc! We asked whether a putative "social" brain area does anything unique with social cues when they're not used for any social reasoning. Turns out it does! nature.com/articles/s4146…

Happy to see this one out ! Full follow up paper coming soon 😎 To understand consciousness one must look at the body in relation to other bodies (not just inside the brain alone) sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

A student asked me a question: I am sometimes told that it is “easier” for me in STEM as a student from an UR background because of all the grants available to me. How do I respond to this? I wanted to expand on my answer a bit here…
