This is grim news for my constituents who already suffer some of the highest levels of fuel poverty in the U.K. It’s a hammer blow for the elderly after Labour chose to means test the winter fuel payment. Tory Austerity continued by Labour - harms the most vulnerable.

Throughout the election I warned about the huge financial pressure in public services and called for significant new investment from the U.K. Government. I was told there would be no austerity under Labour. Well here it is. Scotland will be affected by UK decisions.

I demanded an end to austerity during the election but it continues under Labour. Shona Robison MSP set out the steps Scottish Government must take to deal with inflation and other budget pressures. We will act to protect people’s priorities and will balance the budget as we always have.
