Why is every non Bay Area startup raising a $500k pre-seed? Just bc you aren't based in SF doesn't mean you're not competing with people who are. They are aiming to raise a lot more than that. Let's amp it up, folks.

If you tell a VC you are raising $2M, vs. $500k, they will look at you differently. I am not a fan of raising just to raise but for the first round, fuel the mf ship. You are going to war.

Got an early look at PALs. It’s the first AI that nails emotion. By being able to learn more about me by observing my surroundings + non verbal cues, talking to it comes off as more natural. Pretty important step forward for the industry. Check it out for yourself!

Just printed out a bunch of PG essays for my founder meetup on Friday. We're going to co-work for an hour, read PG essays and discuss them for an hour, and socialize for an hour. Should be highly productive! DM me if you'd like to come (local founders only)

Outsiders think their post product / post revenue startup needs to raise a pre-seed, little do they realize pre seed in its purest form is capital that is invested pre revenue and usually pre product. It’s a stage-round mismatch. Seed is a better fit for post traction companies.

If you HAVE a product and traction, just raise a seed round. Never raised before? Raise like $100k-$250k from connected angels to get you the network and signal, then go straight to seed. FYI: Pre-seed is for team. Seed is for product. A is for growth. B+ is for unit economics.

If only people outside of SF cared as much about fundraising as they do about building their company, and if only people in SF cared as much about building their company as they do about fundraising, we would have world peace.

The gap between “VCs who assume any good founder can learn how to raise in 2025” and “the smart technical founder in Kentucky who’s read everything she’s supposed to about raising VC yet still can’t get a credible investor” couldn’t be wider.

With the exception of like 8 founder programs, mostly in SF, every single program in the world that is trying to support founders aiming to build venture backed startups is providing negative value, and charging for it. They must all be wiped out for the betterment of the world.

"Yes, i'd love to give you 7%, a board seat, super pro rata, and an MFN in exchange for $100k and the worst advice I will ever hear when it comes to building an important company to the world"
