'As a Jewish student at Columbia, I still can't quite believe how the events on campus over the past few days have been so cynically and hysterically misrepresented by the media and by our elected representatives.'

The brutal truth is that - if the Western media and politicians saw Palestinians as fellow human beings with lives of any worth at all - this obscenity would have been stopped a very long time ago.

We made a documentary about the repression of pro-Palestine advocacy at Columbia University that we released before all of this escalated. It’s called “The Palestine Exception”

Taking this seriously: There is apparently a burgeoning effort to declare a major U.S. foreign policy issue off limits for debate, including through violence. This is a real 'free speech' issue and I'd not support doing this to other people even if I disagreed with them.

In November, “I ❤️ Hamas” stickers appeared on posters advertising a student walkout for Palestine at University of British Columbia, implicating UBC Social Justice Centre. The story went viral after it was spread by pro-Israel advocates. Turns out the stickers were made by a pro-Israel contractor working for Hillel BC.

The White House condemning peaceful campus protests as it supports the “plausible genocide” that is being protested. Which of these is “violence” again?

The continued insistence by the NYT in manufacturing a story about the plague of antisemitism on campuses - in order to obfuscate anti-genocide activism over six months, university crackdowns and anti-Muslim/Arab bigotry - is impressive.

Israel imposed famine on Gaza and bombed farmland with chemicals

But Palestinian farmers are replanting crops btwn destroyed buildings to feed their neighbors

This is definition of sumud (صمود)- steadfastness

Refusing to leave the land or give up hope for Palestine’s future

🔻The nuclear facilities in Isfahan province are completely secure.

🔻Reports by some foreign media about an incident at these facilities are incorrect.”

.USC claims their decision to cave in to anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate by cancelling Asna Tabassum's valedictorian speech is not about free speech but about safety. Here's why that claim is disingenuous at best, or a flimsy lie. |🧵A Thread

Cool. So this week the Senate is voting to let the NSA take over the internet and authorize warrantless surveillance of Americans, and the House is voting to take another hundred billion dollars from you (a tenth of a trillion!) to squander on fruitless foreign wars. Very cool.

I spoke to Ansa Tabassum, the Muslim valedictorian who had her speech invitation revoked. USC had accommodated big names like Barack Obama and Milo Yiannopoulos before on campus. Why not for their very own student? Our interview huffpost.com/entry/usc-vale…
