As a boy, I listened avidly (no TV in those days) as Underwood ripped through the Australian resistance in the nick of time that extraordinary afternoon at The Oval in 1968, after the crowd had helped dry the ground after the storm. A quite epic performance. A legend.

Farmers Guardian Outrage? Or maybe manufactured outrage?

Millions of acres of land for biofuels, golf courses, grouse moors - all fine. High meat high land diet - as you were. Bit of space for nature and it’s a threat to food security? Give over.

Compare the mountains of pretty much any continental European country with our own here in Britain. The difference couldn’t be more stark.

The fuss over this story (‘Farm to create biggest natural grassland in southern England’) is so very telling.

Apparently we’re all going to starve because of projects like this. Such nonsense is peddled to try to stand in the way of nature recovery in Britain.

This is low
