Had a lovely day RSPB Lochwinnoch with Rachel Rose Reid. Managed to see spotted flycatchers, a wood sandpiper, and a late staying pink-footed goose (or maybe an escapee).
We've found a gynandromorph! Never seen anything like it before, this individual is part male, part female. Long days doing fieldwork are worth it when something so cool pops up!

Clouded yellow at the field site in Spain today. Never had views of them like this in the UK (only ever seen them in Norfolk and they weren't very confiding).

Great to do some fieldwork as part of my PhD, looking at parental age effects in field crickets. After working on Gryllus bimaculatus in the lab, it's been really interesting to compare them to G. campestris (which is found at the study site in Spain). @UofG_SBOHVM IAPETUS DTP
Nest design in birds has been assumed to be an innate ability, but they can use their experience to be more flexible than previously thought. 🪺 Usually, these studies occur in the lab, but this work is being done in the field by Libby Chapman! #ASABSpring2024
They're finally back! Great to see a few wood warblers while walking around SCENE today. Managed to get some decent views while they were foraging!

Common Quaker hanging around SCENE. Stunning little moths when viewed up close.

Stumbled across the ring-necked duck at Maxwell park just now. I'm annoyed I didn't have my camera on me, it was coming in really close! Clyde Birding
The Palmate newts are back in full force near SCENE! Probably my favourite British amphibian, just check out the hind feet on this male!

Common Quaker moth from SCENE . I find that moths tend to look more than a little owl like when viewed from the front.

Well pleased with how this shot of an oak beauty ended up. Plenty of them about up here SCENE at the moment.
