Two years ago today I received a call that would change our family forever. We will never know why, we will never know what we could have done to prevent it. Tragic unexpected loss is very difficult. Making time to properly talk to those close to you is important.

3 yrs ago I found this and I am reflecting today on the progress I have made since then. I feel I have made progress but more to do. Today I challenged a friend who text a joke with racist undertones to a what’s app chat group. It’s uncomfortable to do this but important.

Three years ago today I was in the middle of chairing an NHS system wide tactical response call when I was informed that my brother had shockingly taken his own life. Only in retrospect did the warning signs become visible to us (1/3)

I cannot help but feel that I/we could have perhaps done more to help if we had paid closer attention. We lead busy lives and often forget to simply ask those closest to us if they are ok. Many of us are trained experts at putting on a brave face to make others feel ok (2/3)

and secure but forget to also look after ourselves in the process. Opening up is very difficult but it is much easier when enquiring and supportive voices reach out and ask the right questions (3/3)
