Today marks the birth in 1907 of the great composer, arranger, conductor, teacher, musicologist, and festival administrator, Imogen Holst. She went on to become Benjamin Britten's most dedicated secretary.
My late father worked for Miss Holst in the late 1960s in Aldeburgh.

Happy birthday Imogen Holst, born this day 1907. Composer, conductor and educator: she lived a musical life. She wrote books, formed choirs & conducted orchestras when it was rare to see a woman in the podium, and her music is increasingly being discovered and performed today.

I love the idea of daily record recitals. I'd attend. I know that there used to be record clubs & recorded music societies, but do they still exist in this age of personal instant access to music?
