📍 Teshkan, Badakhshan: Our teams provided much-needed assistance to 77 families. Our 🚚 can't reach the remote areas because many roads are destroyed. We are using alternatives to deliver emergency aid to those affected.

📍Bashi Allah Dad, Baghlan: Our teams provided emergency relief items to 119 flood-affected families, including: ⛺️Temporary shelter 📦Essential non-food items 💡Solar modules 👕clothing

Since day one, our CCCM mobile teams have been deployed to sites affected by the floods in #Baghlan and other provinces to: ✅ Ensure standards are implemented during the aid distribution process. ⛺️ Provide technical support to people in setting up their temporary shelters.

"Our whole house was destroyed by the flood. I asked my father to build our next house on the highest peak of the mountain so that if the flood comes again, our house will not be destroyed," said 11-year-old Nergiz, recounting her experience after the devastating floods in Ghor.

The devastating floods in #Afghanistan destroyed over 4,000 homes and caused 210 deaths. ​ IOM Afghanistan has been on the ground since day one & has so far provided emergency relief assistance to 3,820 affected families, and healthcare & mental health support to 3,833 people.

Another testament of the importance of support businesses and job creation for returnees and their communities. This support is critical to minimize the need of unwanted or irregular migration. Yesterday in Brussels with Alison Davidian, I was again inspired by our photo exhibition with UN Women highlighting the strength and resilience of Afghan women and girls. We cannot abandon them; they must be able to fully and meaningfully participate in all aspects of Afghan life.

Laila is a resilient single mother & returnee from Iran. After graduating from IOM's EU International Partnerships 🇪🇺🇪🇺-supported apprenticeship programme with 200 others, mostly returnees, she now earns a steady income at a women-led business, crafting beautiful Afghan handicrafts & clothing.
