Despite a reduction in active hostilities, people in #Afghanistan remain in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

In 2024, an estimated 23.7 million people need urgent aid.

However, severe funding gaps are restricting vital humanitarian interventions.

Yesterday, Indrika Ratwatte, Maria Moita & heads of UN agencies visited the Torkham border to observe the assistance provided by IOM and partners to vulnerable Afghan returnees.

They toured the facilities, including IOM's transit center, and interacted with the returnees.

In response to the ongoing floods in several provinces in #Afghanistan , our teams are on the ground distributing emergency aid to those affected. So far, we have provided 979 families with:

🫔 Blankets
🔦 Solar modules
🧥 Winter clothes

During their visit to Herat, EUinAfghanistan🇪🇺 observed the assistance provided by IOM to earthquake-affected people, and business development support to women-led enterprises.

They also toured IOM's transit center and interacted with returnees.

Supporting small businesses is crucial for addressing the significant economic needs in #Afghanistan .

Since January 2024, we have created or retained 2,229 jobs, including for 1,103 women thanks to support from EU International Partnerships 🇪🇺🇪🇺, AICS Cooperazione_it🇮🇹, Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan 🇺🇳🇺🇳 & Norway MFA🇳🇴.

IOM delivers essential health services, including mental health and psychosocial support, to displaced individuals, returnees, and host communities across #Afghanistan . ​

🚑 In 2024, our dedicated teams have conducted over 140K health consultations, reaching those most in need.
