1. Create a physician assistant role 2. Gain support from doctors, who believe they are training assistants with a 2 yr course 3. Change diploma to Masters and gain band 7 pay to match 4. Change the role title to Associate 5. Promote that the role can make clinical decisions

Medical Community: “Suicide and burnout in medicine are out of control. We need to do something.” Young docs: “We have some ideas, like reasonable work hours and conditions.” Older docs: 😡🫣🤮

Just put ACPs on the consultant rota too and be done, it'll be way cheaper. If senior doctors are happy to oversee a department where their juniors are so brazenly replaced and displaced, they should also offer their shifts and posts up. To do otherwise is simply elitist.

We were the first UK Medical Royal College to call for a pause in the expansion of the physician associate workforce. We have written to Wes Streeting about this, while also asking him to launch an independent review. Please read our letter: rcpe.ac.uk/college/letter…

This means that PAs no longer can go on middle grade rotas, cannot run independent clinics, definitely cannot do surgery or endoscopy ( no FY1s do either), cannot lead any services or management positions and should not be on a higher than Band 6 AfC grade. Very clear now. 👇

'It's not replacement because we convert it to not be a doctor shift anymore BEFORE we replace the staff member' Truly one of the sound rationales of our time

Doctors What are you going to do? GMC are laughing in your face . This guy who ISN’T a doctor gets paid £285, 000 per year to ensure patient safety . Instead , he puts patients in danger and goes to a fancy private GP clinic when he’s sick , paid for by DRs !!

PAs and MAPs, overwhelmingly White British, are now playing the race card. A reminder: it is, disproportionately, Ethnic Minority doctors who take the fall from the deadly mistakes of MAPs — often forced to supervise these unqualified individuals against their will.

PA goes to medical school: Realises they THOUGHT they knew everything but medical school taught them how much they didn't know. Respect to this PA for going to medical school. Am I surprised they were humbled by medical school? No. You don't know what you don't know.

General practice is full of high risk patients. It takes 10 years to become a GP for a good reason. However, we have physician associates with only 2 years of training seeing unwell patients. This should not be happening without strict safety regulations. It’s time to stop.
