Chat GPT is a genius work of cultural criticism. It throws in our faces: why do we have so many jobs and school assignments that *can* be done by a non-thinking probability machine? Why do our students (even the ones paying a jillion dollars!) *want* to skip their lessons?

In past decades, a key issue of social theory was how capitalism managed to incorporate and subsume its critiques (Che Guevara t-shirts, etc.). Now with AI the issue is that the very activity of critiquing and theorising may be incorporated and subsumed as well.
