Here is the first paper, which shows that variants in only 13 influenza susceptibility candidate genes that govern TLR3- and IRF7-dependent production of type I IFNs account for at least 3.5% of critical cases of #COVID19 science.sciencemag.org/content/early/… Science Magazine

Here is the other paper, which shows that neutralizing auto-Abs to type I IFNs account for at least 10% of critical cases of #COVID19, even in a greater proportion in men: an auto-immune phenocopy of the corresponding inborn errors science.sciencemag.org/content/early/… Science Magazine

Just how sick we get from #COVID19 depends on genetic variations, including ones that sabotage immune molecules called interferons. Check out this Knowable Magazine piece from tim vernimmen on the Casanova Lab's work to better understand why: knowablemagazine.org/article/health…

Happy to share my first PhD paper investigating the mechanism by which human PKCD deficiency underlies susceptibility to infectious disease. Published today in Journal of Experimental Medicine bit.ly/36K8QKV Casanova Lab

Congratulations Jean-Laurent Casanova Lab, very well deserved!!!!

Paul Bastard of the Casanova Lab and Inserm has won the Michelson Philanthropies & Science Magazine Prize for Immunology for revealing factors that underlie varied susceptibilities to #COVID19. Congratulations! Learn more about his work here: science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
