Student performance on classroom exams should be a powerful datapoint for teachers' practices, not just a view that students haven't done what they need to do to prepare.

Inquiry-based instruction is not a mind-reading game where students are expected to guess what you are thinking.

Inquiry-based instruction is carefully prompting a state of curiosity to prime students' brain to think along with you.

It took me several tries.
Lots of broken yolks.
Many days, turning fried eggs into scrambled.

I like to say that inviting students to reflect on how they revised their thinking is a sixth practice after the five practices.

Wow okay hot take from Howie Hua on the latest ep of Math Therapy podcast 🧠🎙: we all need to stop using the word “YOU” in math class 😱‼️ What do you think?! Agree / disagree / somewhere in between? Let me know LET’S GET INTO IT👇👇👇

These responses are great! I would add, in students’ prompts for reflection, asking students to reflect on how they revised their thinking today during class.

I realized that I interrupt my students when they are presenting their thinking - to point out something important about what they just said - but I resolve to STOP. This is just RUDE of me! I can wait until they're done!!! What am I doing?! Calling myself out.

If you're still in Philly for and are looking for restaurants, while at the conference: I had two great dinners at (1) Charlie was a Sinner and (2) The Love. Both are vegetarian friendly, especially Charlie was a Sinner.
