The craziest thing about how the DWP pursued George is that he now costs the state £1,000 a month *more* than when he was claiming carers' allowance. After being prosecuted, he lost his home and became too mentally ill to work, so now lives in social housing on Universal Credit.

They were heard in private

They were omitted from lists of cases sent to court reporters

It'll likely take a week to find out what happened

Court backlogs in many courts are very real. However, the system isn't uniform: evictions are progressing efficiently, with many tenants going from eviction notice to bailiff in just a few months, partly thanks to the 'accelerated procedure'. Journalists, take heed!
