I talked with @KimRimbey about manipulatives in the elementary #thinkingclassroom. This is a great conversation with an outstanding human being and educator. podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tammy…

Maegan Giroux Dr. Pamela Jones Seda Jordan Rappaport Peter Liljedahl Rachel Lambert (look for me on sky now) Gerry Lewis, OCT Rochelle Gutierrez Being able to see yourself in the mathematics in ways that positively impact your view of yourself as a doer of mathematics is key. Let’s craft mathematics around the experiences of our students and bring in contexts/history that reflects who they are/where they are from.

Wanted to share some lesson plan templates for #thinkingclassroom, modeled after the format Peter Liljedahl and Maegan Giroux use in the new K-5 task book. There's one for thin slicing and one that's slightly different for rich tasks or non-curricular tasks. 1/2 Building Thinking Classrooms

These amazing mathematicians took on their first non-curricular thinking task to start building a thinking classroom. Hexagon Havoc from Peter Liljedahl, was the perfect task to begin our journey with. I could see them deeply engaged, collaborating, and wanting more!

This a phenomenal post and explanation of BTC and cognitive load theory. The one aspect I loved most was Jason's emphasis on nuance. As always, the devil is in the details and things are rarely completely black and white. #BTCthinks Building Thinking Classrooms
