dX: There is no cloud. It's just someone else's computer. Me: It's like computers on the internet, innit. dX: Eh? Me: It's a joke from my 2010 OSCON presentation ... but it's a joke. Do you have a point?

dX : What is conversational programming? Me : It's just the latest in a long list of development components that are evolving. It's an emerging space where we build through having a conversation. dX : It's new? Me : It's expected.

dX : So, it's a new thing? Me : Well, the conversation already occurs between designers around a whiteboard and then people go and code that up. It replaces part of that; the machine is also now a designer, and the system needs to translate that conversation into code.

dX : Prompt Engineering? Me : That's an early starting point but sure, prompt injection etc. dX : Any examples of Conversational programming? Me : PartyRock - partyrock.aws - is getting there but it's not a conversation yet - youtube.com/watch?v=-6p-u-… - and we're still

I will not be speaking at DevTernity on 7th of December as previously planned. Unfortunately it turns out aspects of the conference were misrepresented to me.

Who are you, my friend? Today you binged 0800-DEVOPS podcast, and I want to meet you I often see this pattern: many episodes listened to exactly once. Like somebody new taking an interest in 0800-DEVOPS and staying engaged-in this case, for 19(!) episodes straight,in a single day

I spent 20yrs+ discussing the benefits of test driven development. I've spent 2wks learning GT - gtoolkit.com I've learnt so many lessons on how we are doing things wrong. We should have been using example driven development - medium.com/feenk/an-examp…

The whole cloud repatriation movement didn't make sense to me. But I get it now. Thanks to Wardley Maps. The problem is not that these people don't "get" the cloud or that they are misguided. DHH is a smart man (as much as I don't agree with a lot of what he says). The problem

dX: What do you think about the repatriation movement for the cloud? Me: I would guess it's a bonanza time for consultants and vendors of h/w plus specific toolsets with oodles of expensive conferences in exotic locations. I see lots of grumpy CFOs in the future.

Today, @suksr shared her uncommon knowledge about #DDDesign, Wardley Mapping, and Team Topologies. She's one of the few who has such well-rounded knowledge of all of these combined. I can't wait until her book is published. She's put so much effort and hard work into it.

At the heart of all this are the concepts of exploration, classification and codification in an environment with tools that can change and are moldable to the context. I'll write something soon but Forrest Brazeal is so right with where we are heading.

However, this isn't just a tech problem. It's also a business problem. You can replace those sad engineers with many different areas, from supply chains to business operations to logistics.

I suspect Red Hat was supposed to post this on April 1st. Obviously, someone in marketing got a little bit carried away. Either that or RH has completely lost it.

On June 17th, I'm going to restart my research efforts. The first set of mapping will focus on the "future of work". A bit of background to what is involved - swardley.medium.com/simple-suggest… ... yes, AI, remote work, changing technology spaces are bound to be involved.

dX: You think AIs will replace CEOs? Me: Replacing the executive layer with AIs would probably have the most significant impact (in terms of cost reduction) with low risk. Your next CIO could well be an AI. dX: Engineers? Me: Dangerous. Nowhere near ready. Not cost-effective.

Does anyone know how many private clouds were built out of fear of "lock-in" that currently find themselves at the mercy of Broadcom with its eye-watering price hikes - theregister.com/2024/04/24/cis…

The people who hate "Agile" usually hate the corporate-ized BS with the label "Agile" slapped on it that seems to be the norm. I've yet to come across anybody who was agile saying that they hate it. It's Scrum and SAFe and other BS that they hate--for good reason. None of that
