Finally at #EGU23 and loving this beautiful Vienna weather! Looking forward to sharing my research on Thursday (14:00 in CR3.2 orals) and hopefully connecting with some #cryosphere folks ❄️

If you’re at #EGU23 and want a firn workshop bag from last year’s fantastic online conference, come find me or message me. I have several extra that I’d love to give away! ❄️

🚨 My first, first-author paper has been published in The Cryosphere! ❄️ Co-authors Nander Wever, Max Stevens, Jan Lenaerts, Brooke Medley, and I evaluated and compared two firn models on the Greenland Ice Sheet. Check out what we found here: tc.copernicus.org/articles/17/21…

The Boulder edition of the #AntarcticAtmosphericRiverWorkshop was fantastic this week! Excellent talks and conversations about current unknowns/gaps in the research. Already can’t wait for next year!! 🌨️#antarctica #atmosphericriver

You’ve heard about Antarctic sea ice lows - well, here’s the consequences. Over 9,000 emperor penguin chicks from colonies in the Bellingshausen Sea are thought to have died in November 2022. The sea ice they lived on broke up early, before they'd developed waterproof feathers.

What causes the bumps and wiggles in time series of Antarctic ice-mass change, and how do they relate to large-scale climate modes and ice sheet trends? That's what we look at in our new paper in Nature Geoscience with Kewei Lyu Xuebin Zhang 🧵 1/n youtu.be/zLZ4DohEKmU

Awesome new study with a head-to-toe analysis of the East Antarctic heatwave 🇦🇶🌡️❄️ in March 2022. Congrats @JonathanWille for leading this huge, interdisciplinary effort!

Absolutely stoked for this article to be out in the world! A circumpolar look at the dynamical drivers of Antarctic Atmospheric River precipitation supported by an awesome coauthor team! doi.org/10.1038/s43247… Andrew Winters @JonathanWille Communications Earth & Environment ATOC at CU-Boulder

Not just #NorthernLights. This from the South Pole! We're seeing amazing pictures from London, Switzerland, Austria--even in bright cities. Skies in NE Colorado and nearby areas will gradually clear this evening. This may be the best chance to see the aurora here in 20 years.

Happy 22-year anniversary of the March '03 blizzard! 31.2" fell in Denver, the city's 2nd-biggest storm on record. Over 60" (!) fell in the foothills. DIA closed, 135k people lost power, and the snow created a huge gash on the Denver Int'l Airport roof. What are your memories? #COwx
