I usually have a Nintendo and ice cream party to celebrate my Math Jedi. But Coronavirus made me have to come up with another way to make the kids feel special.

Congratulations to Mathster Willis 1st bell class! They placed 3rd out of about 300 teams in the American Statistical Association’s March Randomness contest. The 4 week competition promotes student awareness of data & statistics concepts.

A student shared this with me just now. It made what was an otherwise cruddy day special. I love when something we do in class sparks a student to the point they want to share their math with me!

Today we measured some really tall things outdoors using our newly learned trig ratios. It was🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶 , but they were troopers!

On the day before a break, what's the attendance threshold for scrapping regular plans and doing a fun educational activity? 70%, 60%, 50? Grappling with that rn.

We had 14 students take part in the virtual edition of the UC Math Bowl! The ideas and excitement about math were invigorating.

A4: I want to explore Graspable math more next year. It was pretty sensitive with the gestures when we tried it a few years ago, and my students became frustrated. I hear they have a better activity platform and hope they have tweaked the interactivity. #octmchat
