Had little to no expectations of #Elio, but I was pleasantly surprised by its staggering artistry, expressive animation, and potent emotional anchor that did get me by the end. Hard not to hold back tears when you get to "I may not always understand you, but I love you."

#Cannes2025 opening film LEAVE ONE DAY has finally released in Quebec, and it's an absolute catastrophe. Bastien Bouillon is, as always, terrific, but the "jukebox musical" aspect of it all was so painful that I considered leaving the cinema when the characters began singing.

#HIFIVE is a brilliant reinvention of the superhero movie that isn't afraid to go all out in pure maximalism, while always focusing on its central characters as the most essential aspect of this aesthetically inventive picture. Well Go USA Entertainment has another must-see on their hands.

Great news: after 3 years, Film Heritage Foundation has restored Sholay, from a combo of original 35mm negatives found in Mumbai (for reference; too damaged to use) and inter+ves and colour reversal intermediates found in Mumbai and London—w/ original ending. Premieres Italy 6/27

For InSession Film, I reviewed Danny Boyle's #28YearsLater, a piece of post-digital filmmaking so inventive it must be seen to be believed. It also contains Alex Garland's best script since 2015, even if he can get a bit bizarre. Read it here: tinyurl.com/2wk2vu6u

For InSession Film, I reviewed the surprisingly fun #KPOPDEMONHUNTERS, a movie that deserved much better than to be relegated to a streaming service with little to no promotional awareness. Read it below: insessionfilm.com/movie-review-k…

#F1Movie is the year's best film. A 155-minute succession of slack-jawed, "How in the fuck did they do that?" moments that will make your eyes widen in awe, thinking it's impossible for contemporary cinema to *look* and *feel* this good. Joseph Kosinski is a real talent.
