A team of scientists, led by UCC Ireland and Universität Bayreuth Geoinstitute has found proof of subducted slab fluids in the lower mantle by studying inclusions in diamonds using the ESRF.  More about this Nature Communications paper here: bit.ly/3W7cqqQ

So happy to see the new laser-heating DAC system at ID24-DCM European Synchrotron Matter at Extremes working and ready for users! We coupled nano-XAS, XRF and XRD. The first experiment on trace element speciation in #deepsilicate #melts finished successfully. SEDI-AGU MinPhys@Münster
