During this period I think ministers and MPs repeatedly claimed the Afghan scheme was open. When, secretly, it was actually closed.

In all the debate on the Rwanda bill there's been less focus on how it, along with the Illegal Migration Act, shuts down the asylum system.

In new Refugee Council 🧡 analysis, we warn the system is in meltdown with more than 100k people facing being shut out by the end of the year.

Solidarity and gratitude to all those involved in expressing outrage and refusal this week.

Next Thursday, Michael German has secured a debate in House of Lords on the groups impacted by the shutting down of the asylum system as a result of the Illegal Migration Act. Refugee Council 🧡 analysis showed that over 100k people could be shut out of the system by the end of 2024.
