My journey as Head of UN Humanitarian has come to an end. To my fellow humanitarians: it’s been an honour to be your colleague. And to all our partners, thank you for believing in the work we do. I’ll have a new account here soon.
Dear world leaders, what more must happen before you take action? Aid workers & civilians suffer when international humanitarian law is ignored. On #WorldHumanitarianDay, I support Muzoon Al-Mellehan's voice in calling for those in power to #ActForHumanity.
On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we honor the resilience of the Yemeni people & dedication of aid workers. Their unwavering commitment inspires us to continue serving affected communities. United Nations agencies in #Yemen reaffirm our commitment to serving vulnerable people all over the country.
Over 4.5 million children in #Yemen are out of school. Yusra's story shows it's never too late to learn. Orphaned, displaced & a mother of 3, she's determined to change her life, thanks to UNICEF Yemen & education partners. Yusra's inspiring story ➡️ bit.ly/3Xn0aWl
Najat, a woman who left school at 15, returned at 40 after 25 years of adversities. With support from a UNFPA in Yemen صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان في اليمن safe space, she started her own business and new life. Najat’s story of inspiration➡️ bit.ly/3Xn0aWl
Flooding continues to affect many parts of #Yemen. On a visit to an affected IDP site in Bajil, Hodeidah, the team witnessed the severe impacts & dire need for aid. "The situation here is catastrophic, & people need food, shelter & WASH services," said our colleague OCHA Yemen.
3 ways the humanitarian system & those it serves are under threat: 🔴Disregard for International Humanitarian Law 🔴Attacks on aid workers & civilians 🔴Barriers to aid delivery As the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) discuss the future of humanitarian action at #UNGA, I urge leaders to #ActForHumanity.
