This year's #KiswahiliLanguageDay theme reminds me of a wise Kiswahili proverb: "Haba na haba hujaza kibaba" - Small efforts lead to great results. Every culture plays a part in promoting peace. May our shared mission of peace 🕊️ unite us all for a better future. 💫

At the #UNSC, I warned of growing risks of a regional spillover in #Yemen and emphasized the need to protect civilians. Strikes on Hodeidah port threaten the population's access to much-needed basic items. Despite challenges, we remain committed to supporting those in need.

Women & girls face disproportionate impacts in crises.🌍 At the high-level #ECOSOC panel, I emphasized 3 key actions: ♀️Enhanced protection for women 💪🏾Support women's leadership ⚖️Accelerate gender equality Only then will we unlock the full potential of our crisis response.

Torrential rains and flooding in #Yemen have destroyed homes, shelters, and public infrastructure and hindered access to basic services. Aid partners continue the response efforts amid limited resources. WHO➡️ bit.ly/3Mm8XBm

Flooding continues to affect many parts of #Yemen. On a visit to an affected IDP site in Bajil, Hodeidah, the team witnessed the severe impacts & dire need for aid. "The situation here is catastrophic, & people need food, shelter & WASH services," said our colleague OCHA Yemen.

3 ways the humanitarian system & those it serves are under threat: 🔴Disregard for International Humanitarian Law 🔴Attacks on aid workers & civilians 🔴Barriers to aid delivery As the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) discuss the future of humanitarian action at #UNGA, I urge leaders to #ActForHumanity.

Humanitarian action isn’t just delivering aid—it’s about listening to those affected & facilitating efforts to support them. Across the #Sahel and Lake Chad Basin, we can promote solutions by deepening partnerships and hearing their voices. This conference was a great step.⬇️

As 2024 closes, I pay tribute to over 300 humanitarian workers who lost their lives this year – deadliest on record. I hope that in 2025 international law is upheld, we see genuine accountability, and humanitarian workers are protected to serve those most in need.
