We have adopted a Retail Investment Package that places the interests of consumers at the centre of retail investing, because European consumers are not yet getting the best deal when it comes to their investment choices.

The new rules aim to: ➡️empower retail investors to make investment decisions aligned with their needs and preferences ➡️ensure that they are treated fairly and duly protected ➡️enhance trust and confidence in capital markets ➡️ boost the Capital Markets Union #CMU

💶People’s preferences are changing in how they want to pay. With digital payments more common than before, the euro should also adapt to the digital age. A #DigitalEuro would complement cash but not replace it - cash will continue to be fully available.

The euro is a symbol of Europe’s unity and strength. For more than two decades, people and businesses have been accustomed to paying with euro coins and banknotes. And this would not change with a digital euro ↓

Today we are proposing to safeguard the role of euro banknotes and coins. To ensure that all euro area citizens can freely choose their preferred means of payment, EU countries will need to ensure: 🔸a widespread acceptance of cash payments 🔸access to basic cash services

We are also proposing the legal framework for a possible digital euro. People and businesses could pay with the digital euro anytime and anywhere in the euro area. It would be safe and secure, instant and convenient. The #DigitalEuro would not replace cash.
