Bluesman Big Joe Williams was born on this day in 1903. Last week we found a tape of a February 1966 song-swap with him, Mable Hillery, and Alan Lomax, rec’d at Alan’s apt by Joan Halifax. Audio: bit.ly/3Vp5t4i 📸 David Gahr/Getty, shot during BJW’s same visit to NYC.

Remembering R.L. Burnside, born on this day in 1926 in Lafayette County, Mississippi. Here he is playing "See My Jumper Hanging on the Line" at his home in 1978. Thanks to Alan Lomax Archive for preserving this performance.
