A project which has Metro Tunnel level capacity relief, for a quarter the cost, makes people's commutes more direct (mostly) and fixes the biggest flaws of the original MURL, but that also nobody apart from weird transport nerds care about

The city loop reconfiguration is a beautiful insanely technocratic project whose conception and benefits are rather hard to explain to the general public and I love her for that

Andrew Leigh Dear Andrew,
I know you mean well however this is NOT the solution. The solution needs to be part of an integrated system: no piecemeal offers & definitely not charity based. We can learn a lot from Finland. Please work to change the system of inequality & anxiety.

Upzoning is like the opposite of coercion -- it tends to lead to more, not less, freedom.

You know what seems more coercive?

Using the *powers of government* to prevent other people from developing their property as they wish.

That seems very much more coercive to me tbh.

the craziest housing discourse I've seen on this app was two days ago when the same person described upzoning as both 'colonialization' and 'economic coercion'.

I'm still reeling.

If someone offers to buy your property, then you can just ... choose not to accept it? True story.
