This is such a great initiative! Congrats to CCBC for enhancing literacy and a love of reading to children across Canada. I hope teachers will make this the special event it deserves! Interested to know ideas....

This is something worth reading & thinking about. Is this what’s happening in classrooms? If not, why? Is this a change worth making? Wonder if this would have kids focused more on reading versus concerns about levels. Gerry Smith @moojean_seo Mary Anne Gage HWDSB Reading Specialists Janet Raymond

Tchrs who listen to kids’ conversations, observe their projects, & read their writing don't need to use tests. But this assumes kids have a chance to converse, design projects, & write. If they just listen to lecs & do wksheets, there’s not much authentic learning to BE assessed

I love this reflection about “Show and Tell”, a traditional practice that is being reflected on and replaced with authentic ways to highlight children’s interests and wonders!

All of these are qualities best developed within the context of a regular day of school. Caution when making bold statements such as these! The stigma, pitfalls, inequity of homework can also have the exact opposite effect of everything listed.

When we listen to children and reflect on the materials and experiences we have offered! I wonder more about the role play experiences for children...more learning with and about the children for sure!!! @sergepascucci @DECE4CBO

Every time there is a professional wondering for any grade is helps to look into Kindergarten program doc. On the idea of differentiated instruction it says “why this learning for this child at this time in this context?” (Page 23)

Another reason not to pay kids for grades: This year’s Nobel Prize in Economics winners found that people are more motivated by dignity, social connections & status in their community than by financial incentives. Appeal to kids’ innate desire to do well. nytimes.com/2019/10/26/opi…
