I hope you’re ready to see all that Department of State public diplomacy can offer, and maybe some of my own musings. Onwards and upwards, together!

Now, as I assume the role in an official capacity, I wanted to share some of my priorities:
✅Strengthening public diplomacy in areas of competition
✅Leading efforts to counter foreign malign influence and foreign disinformation

For over a year, I have served as the Senior Official for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, acting in the role of Under Secretary in the absence of a nominee. I prioritized strengthening our team, while focusing on reaching our audiences and integrating emerging technologies.

More recently, I served as GPA Assistant Secretary, where at the start of 2022, we embarked on one of the most intensive efforts to counter disinformation during Russia’s brutal attack on Ukraine. Messaging matters from credible voices that can counter disinformation.

I returned in 2014 to work with Educational & Cultural Affairs—U.S. Dept. of State as Communications Director. While there, I recognized how vital the next generation is in shaping our future. I helped launch several new programs aimed at empowering young leaders, including MandelaWshFellowship.

After college, I got my first full-time job in US Dept of State INL working on human trafficking. I saw firsthand how Department of State directly supports U.S. national security. I also got my first taste of culinary diplomacy at the Department's cafeteria, which had excellent chicken wraps.

I started my career at Department of State as an intern, working with The Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues on Afghan women’s issues. Interns have and continue to be essential to our teams. I remember Secretary Condoleezza Rice taking the time to meet with us – engaging with her was the highlight of my internship.

Today I was sworn in as the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the Department of State. This is now my sixth position at the State Department, so I wanted to share a little of what I’ve learned.
