Super important context for those who worry that upzoning alone won't fully solve affordability: That's true. But downzoning (which cities have done a lot!) makes affordability much, much worse. And keeping status quo zoning when housing demand increases is also problematic.

Just another reminder that good bikeways are inclusive, not exclusive, to those with a whole range of mobility needs.

There are many pieces to the puzzle of solving the Charlottesville area’s affordable housing crisis. Land use reform in Albemarle County, including expansion of growth areas to include land adjacent the current urban ring, is a key piece.

Evidence suggests bike lanes are a way Charlottesville can bolster small business and increase tax revenue to pay for the city’s priorities.
