“Henrico unanimously voted to allocate $800,000 to two regional homeless service providers. Whatever we can do to get people off the street and inside. If Chesterfield can get in then we can have a more regionally robust response.” ⛺️➡️🏢 Tyrone Nelson

VRE is going to take so much of traffic off 95 when it runs like regional rail, not commuter. Means running every day, both directions. Automated fares, no stairs etc

All of this is held up by the Long Bridge work which in turn is held up by wasteful 4 yr environmental reviews

My homeowners insurance is going up over 50% this year. I always tell my friends looking to buy that rent is the maximum you’ll pay each month for shelter while a mortgage is the minimum. 🏠💸

More women in urbanist spaces because there isn’t enough talk about how pedestrian safety also includes women being free from the verbal/physical abuse/catcalling that happens while walking alone.

This was going to continue to be two car lanes but then people who care spoke up and asked for better and got it. It's a small thing, but it's a nice reminder of why it's important to get involved even when it's frustrating.

“From 2000 to 2009 three thunderstorms cost the insurance industry more than $1bn. From 2010 to 2019 there were ten. Since 2020 there have already been six. Such storms now account for over a quarter of the costs to the industry from natural disasters.” 🌀

When zoning doesn’t allow, and groups organize to oppose, dense housing in the most in-demand parts of the city bc it’s ‘unaffordable’ this is what you get instead; not something magically ‘affordable’

Daniel is absolutely right! Who would have thought, even just 5 years ago, that a car-centric city like Austin would abolish parking mandates?

The truth is that if your city is serious about tackling the housing crisis, minimum parking requirements just have to go.

“Many neighborhoods where baby boomers live have zoning that only allows single-family homes. That means when older adults decide their current homes are too big, they basically have to move out of their neighborhoods.” Danielle Arigoni 🏘️ Laurel Wamsley

What could the region do to ensure WMATA, aka Metro, not only survives but thrives?

My answer: Everyone needs to get on board. (Choo Choo!)

“If the city begins to charge $5 an hour for the unmetered spaces on 75th and 76th streets, the new revenue will be about $1.1 million a year — enough to pay for free public transit for all the block’s residents.” Donald Shoup 🚍🚇 Streetsblog New York

This is what I like to hear! 💪🚍🚏

I’m proud to have worked to deliver a 40% raise for GRTC drivers to boost recruitment which has increased frequency and reliability.

We have a lot more to do and as Mayor I’ll continue to build on this historic process.

The idea that homelessness only happens to bad people who made bad choices is a comforting fairytale for a lot of people in for a rude awakening.

The #1 growing group of homeless people are seniors who have never been homeless before.

It's going to get bad.

“The HQ2 buildings that Amazon opened last year in Crystal City have room for 14,000 employees — about twice as many as currently work there. The company has for more than a year paused construction on three other office towers to be built.” 🏗️ Teo Armus
