Read this important article by Sumeyya Ilanbey in The Age We engage with countless people who express distress on the involvement of police in mental health crises and the trauma that this causes for families. We can't afford to waste any more time. shorturl.at/joFLP

“Every carer has mental health impacts from being a carer. They won’t say it’s depression or anxiety, but it’s mental health because when the hierarchy of needs is not being met for you, you can’t provide them for somebody else.” The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand Read: shorturl.at/jrTW8

We acknowledge the carers and supporters who gave of themselves, contributing their lived experience to this report. We know that there is always a personal cost to doing this - thank you. Read: livedexperiencejustice.au Listen: shorturl.at/jJVY8 #NotBeforeTimeReport

I grew up in public housing. While my experience wasn’t as extreme as what’s described here, fear was felt daily. Why is it still so difficult to provide comprehensive support for people living with complex needs? Housing policy needs to go further than just a roof.

Feel like it got dark early? That's because today is the winter solstice of 2023. So it seems a good time to tell you about this powerful documentary, Solstice, screening in Melbourne as part of The 11th Melbourne Doc Fest / Naarm Doco Film Fest and featuring our own Patrick McGorry. Sadly I couldn’t make it to Cape Town for the #GMHAN2023 with United for Global Mental Health and mental health campaigners across the globe, but grateful I can tune in online.

I had to take my toddler to ED last night and two things struck me: 1) the infinite capacity of our health workforce to care and nurture; and 2) the ongoing overwhelm of our system. Wondering when we are going to stop relying on 1 to get us through 2. It’s not sustainable.
