All of a sudden the government ONS need to change their recording method to reduce the record excess deaths in the UK by 65% for 2023. Can we expect new methods each year to keep numbers constant? Welcome to the wonderful world of statistics.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Excess Deaths Rebranded

The UK has gone full on Orwellian - the ONS (Office National Statistics) are changing the way they now classify excess deaths/mortality.

They DONT WANT YOU KNOWING how many more people are dying than should be expected.

I wonder whyโ€ฆโ€ฆ.?

The Cattle Egret flock on Fritton Marshes had increased from 8 on Saturday to 10 today. They were finding plenty to eat in the flooded marsh pools.

A rather quieter seawatch off Ness Point in Lowestoft this morning, with the highlight being this Sooty Shearwater heading north. Not quite up to the standard of the recent shearwater activity in the western approaches but much appreciated nonetheless.

Remarkable twist in the mean number of butterflies on Dutch Butterfly Monitoring transects: instead of the usual decline in August numbers went up (a little), caused by lots of Whites (Pieris species), Small Heath (C pamphilus) and Small Copper (L phlaeas).

On 25th July the eclipse drake Ring-necked Duck at SWT Carlton Marshes had started shedding its secondaries. Today (29th) it had shed the rest of its flight feathers, with many of the replacements already growing. Other photo from 22nd. @SWTSiteManager
