For years dad refused to cut this overgrown juniper tree down stating that it had ‘character’. We cut it down in 2019 and today we see that he was right all along! Perhaps the most unique kitchen table I’ve seen. #farmtable #epoxy

Great opportunity today to evaluate and semen test the 2022 Ram crop, 45 rams though with great preliminary results, we are ready for some spring breeding and then onto new homes. Rams enjoyed the one and only time they will be haltered.

Drilling beans into grazed off cereal rye cover crop, this 18 acre field fed 250 ewes and 18 cow/calf pairs for 25 days. Now try for a good soybean crop. #doublecrop

Walked the June lambing group home this morning, crossing the bridge with a mob of ewes is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Ontario Sheep #stockdrive

Interseeding cover crop into the corn today. Ryegrass, turnip and clover. Looking to add value when grazing corn stover in Nov/Dec. Some rain would help make this a success. #sheepgrazing #covercrop

First look at the cover crop as silage season is a go. Turnip and ryegrass are small but given a month or two should provide great grazing potential after the balance of the field is harvested for grain. No effect on corn yield.

Peeled these beans off yesterday in the mid 50s for yield, wheat is now in the ground. I’d call that two successful crops plus a third seeded into decent conditions. #triplecrop?

1/2 Grain corn harvested November 14, decent CC growth since leaf drop on the corn. Overall no effect on corn performance, being the highest corn yield this farm has achieved. Growth in the silaged corn looks good, despite not having great growing weather this fall.

2/2 corn agronomy note: variety 1 had great CC performance, variety 2 much poorer stand of cover crop. I think this is caused by the corn leaf arrangement (light penetration). Variety 1 had more upright leaves, also out-yielded variety 2. The sheep are grazing now, update to come

An excellent growing season here in West Grey along with some awesome fall weather! Cover crop oats have thrived and stretched the grazing season out with great quality feed. #covercrop #grazing #oatsnotes

Grazing the corn stalks this week with the cows, thanks to Rappa kit from Chris Moore. Easy setup and takedown. Turnip cover crop planted in row adds value to the grazing.
