We are grateful to the GA and Michael Jones for this vote! The amendments would have added a $10 fee to those requesting an itemized list of how much they owe in court fines and fees.

Adding new fees will only create additional barriers to the transparency of court debt.

LAJC's OneHopewell outreach will be back on May 7th with new hours! We will be providing legal information on housing issues to Hopewell area tenants from 2-4pm on the first Tuesday of each month.

Today, during National Farmworker Awareness Week, Governor Youngkin vetoed #HB157 , a bill that would have extended long-overdue minimum wage protections to Virginia’s #farmworkers and migrant workers on temporary visas.

Today, #HB157 , bill that allows farmworkers to receive minimum wage, passed out of Senate with critical support. Now, Governor Glenn Youngkin has the unique opportunity to right a historical wrong for #farmworkers in VA.

HB824, which aims to eliminate counsel fees for those the court has deemed indigent, and HB857, bill to reduce time court debt can be collected to 10 years, passed out of Senate!

Good news! HB612–bill that requires courts to count community service work to offset court debt while incarcerated– and HB614–bill to give people with court debt more time to pay before being sent to collections– passed out of Senate!
