As a VCU alum I’m horrified at how quickly protestors were met with such force. As a student, I protested many times on that campus and I strongly believe that students have the constitutional right to do so peacefully without being subjected to excessive force and arrest.

Excessive force towards students who are protesting non-violently is unacceptable. The right to assemble peacefully is a hallmark of our democracy, which we must protect.

The heavy handedness against peaceful protestors on campuses around the country right now is not and should not be normal.

Students and faculty should always have space to demonstrate for what they believe in on the campuses in which they have a right to be on.

End of story.
