Damon in The New York Times on what happens when economic anxiety becomes so foundational to your life (and so crippling) that you can't escape it, even when your circumstances suggest you should be able to. nyti.ms/2JuQvnX

Lebron James is the greatest American athlete, and he now begins his quest to conquer what many Americans prior to him sought to conquer: the west. What a narrative for our time.

Back at the writing thing in 2019. First up, an article on @medium about my work resolution to stop saying #user, #userexperience and #ux. Let's shake up #design and build better #tech this year. medium.com/@LeftonBomb/wh…

I would totally agree -- it's more about what's underneath the word. But to do so we need to break old habits. It will be difficult to find new definitions while using the same words. We need to enter that uncomfortable, term-less space, explore, try new things, etc...

Personas are well intentioned, for sure. As are many of the other techniques that aim to add complexity to the "user." They help, but they don't solve the problems I'm talking about as much as they mitigate them (imo). Ultimately, I'm not ready to bank the future on personas.

Interesting. One of the responses mentioned that some healthcare providers in the US have begun to refer to 'patients' as 'customers' internally. I'm struggling to see what's wrong with patient though.

"There are two wolves inside you," said the old man. "They are fighting to the death." "That's a pretty used-up meme format," said the boy without looking up from his phone. "You and that damn phone," said the old man. mcsweeneys.net/articles/there…

It's normal to feel small when an insidious menace of wealth and power is attempting to seize control of your life and rule over you till the end of time.

Product dream: the equivalent of an answering machine for texts to help manage time away from phone: Adam's phone is off right now or he's left it at home or perhaps thrown it into a lake. He'll get back to you soon, or maybe never.

Tech sells innovation. But just because it comes on a screen, or in the cloud, doesn't make it the future. The reality is the industry's plagued by too few good, new ideas, a deep conservatism, and decisions driven mostly by fear of losing market share, influence, and power.

The great thing about IKEA’s new collection with this fashion guy is that it’s going to look great when we all live in 10x10 cubes we rent from Amazon.

Mixed feelings on Microsoft's "AI" commercial. Guy uses "AI" to recreate the experience of being inside ancient monuments. V cool. But would be cooler if we just lived in a sustainable, peaceful world and didn't have to use machines to recreate the things we've destroyed, right?
