Good. One of the many problems with boxing is the desire to put on endless "marination fights" as if Ortiz-Ennis is the ultimate destination fight. With twice-a-year slates, there is no time to waste. Yes, Ortiz-Ennis is a major fight, but it should be the START of a new chapter.

Duran was coming off the Davey Moore win, but many thought this was a bridge too far. After all, Hagler was at his peak and had stopped every challenger. Duran lost, but showed well. My memory: HBO's replay was the first image I saw on my new C-band dish. A great christening. :-)

This is great! Dan Canobbio making a triumphant return to the warehouse with Bob Canobbio right behind him. A parting thought: If Dan is vintage enough to be serenaded with chants of "Old Man Dan," I shiver to think how a man of my even more advanced years would be characterized.

You are not wrong. This has been building for years and now it has reached the point where even the most optimistic of fans (I've long been one of those) are giving the administrators of this sport the side eye. Thing is, with this environment, the time and place should be "NOW!"

It was a historic time in boxing for certain. In fact, I wrote a multi-part series about those fights for MaxBoxing.com a number of years ago.

Well done! As a native West Virginian, this song will always hold a special place, and it's always wonderful to hear when it's sung right.

During today's "ITC," James Smitty Smith says that there should be a return to a tighter definition of the word "great," which should mean sustained excellence against high-grade competition. The show premieres at noon ET today here: youtube.com/@inthiscorner

In the wake of the Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis cancellation, James Smitty Smith and I opine on the mass confusion "The Problem Child" has created when it comes to what "real boxing" should be for today's generation. Today's "ITC" premieres at noon ET here: youtube.com/@inthiscorner

On today's "ITC" that premieres at noon ET here (youtube.com/@inthiscorner), James Smitty Smith and I discuss the potential showdown between Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez:

On today's "ITC" that will premiere here at noon ET (youtube.com/@inthiscorner), I tell James Smitty Smith that Eubank-Benn II is one of those rare fights that has been transformed from a "big top" fight to a "big time" bout. I also tell him my thoughts on how today's rematch will go:

In this clip from today's "ITC," James Smitty Smith and I discuss the potential for another "marination" match to set up Ortiz-Ennis, and we make our stances very clear. By the way, this is the first clip I've made with my newly upgraded video program, and it looks like it's working!

As far as Benn-Eubank II, the word of the day is "maturity." Benn was poised, purposeful and precise. He was aggressive, but not reckless. He out-boxed, out-foxed and out-fought Eubank. Eubank was wooden and out of sorts, but that shouldn't take away from Benn's win. Well done!

As the Top Rank Boxing card ends, I want to give a shout out to the broadcast team of Corey Erdman and Morgan “Absolute Heater of a Memoir” Campbell for their ability to weave in story telling, analysis, historical context and on-the-spot translation with their customary roles. It was a long card, but time flew.

This fight was one that was featured in my first book, and reports at the time said that Davila, who was losing up to that point, purposefully steered Sanchez so that the rain was hitting him in the face. The momentum shifted, and Davila won by 11th round TKO. Wow!
