Question 1: One definition of "Purposeful Talk" is a conversation that results in each student learning something they couldn't have learned without the contributions of others in the group. Share a time in your class where students were engaged in "Purposeful Talk." #LearnLAP

Question 2: What are some ways you get your students to TALK academically? "Turn and Talk" is a common practice, but what other practices encourage meaningful discussion? #LearnLAP

Question 3: "Purposeful Talk" requires valuable class time, but results in tremendous learning. If you had to defend using class time for "Purposeful Talk," to your administration, what would you claim are some benefits? #LearnLAP

Question 4: What skills do we need to teach our students so that they are able to participate successfully in purposeful talk in the classroom? #LearnLAP

Question 5: One definition of "Critical Writing" is refuting the claims of others using evidence. How might you integrate "Critical Writing" into your teaching? What topics might you use? #LearnLAP

Sorry to switch gears abruptly! Let's focus on "Critical Writing" for a few minutes so we can ultimately combine it with "Purposeful Talk" to create something powerful! #LearnLAP

Question 6: There are SO many styles of writing that students learn over the course of their schooling (e.g. Creative, Narrative, Descriptive, Informative). Why is "Critical Writing" worth including among these writing styles? Why does it deserve our time and attention? #LearnLAP

Question 7: We are ALL bombarded by fake news & coercive writing tactics. What examples have you or your students found that could have been a perfect time for some "Critical Writing"? What are some situations we can use to get our students to "Write Critically?" #LearnLAP

Question 8: The reason these two ideas were included in one Twitter chat is because "Critical Writing" is improved when it's preceded by "Purposeful Talk" on the subject. How will you combine "Purposeful Talk" & "Critical Writing" in a meaningful way in your classroom? #LearnLAP
