#ASOI2024Conf The social desire for thinness can help drive weight bias. So many stereotypes - people of higher weight considered lazy, less intelligent. Creates US v Them and is discriminatory. But few countries protect this or support people.

Thank you to Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow President for choosing obesity as the focus this year for conference; the range of speakers and topics covered was impressive. We still have a lot of work to do to make better treatment more accessible so we better get to it! 💪🏻

Dear BBC Newsline - yet again I have to ask you to stop using these types of images. Showing 'headless' shots of people living with obesity just going about their day - it is dehumanising and drives weight stigma. And no-one is 'being obese' - same as no-one is being cancerous.

💔 "Double Trouble" #type1diabetes & visceral adiposity In SFDT1 (n=1,482), half had overweight or obesity But WHtR ≥ 0.5 was a better risk signal than BMI: 📊 High CV risk in: • 13% with WHtR ≥ 0.5 • 4% with WHtR < 0.5 👀 Even men with “normal” BMI were high risk if WHtR
